Magic on Front Street: A Night to Remember with Bell & Field and Paul Weddle

Paul Weddle and Bell & Field captivating the audience at Crescent City Tap.

Some gigs are a blast, but every now and then you get a night you’ll never forget. Our show at Crescent City Tap in Galva, IL was one of those. From the moment we walked in, Jason, the manager, made us feel right at home. The room already had that spark in the air, and once the music started—with the incredible Paul Weddle on sax—it turned into something truly special.

As a live acoustic duo, Bell & Field thrives on intimate settings like Crescent City Tap, where the charm of Galva meets the vibrancy of a French Quarter-inspired venue. The room was packed, a testament to the extra promotion efforts by both us and Jason. Familiar faces filled the crowd, making it feel like a family reunion.

Unforgettable Musical Moments

 

We were thrilled to share the stage with old friends and musical partners Mark Schueneman and David Sherrard, whose camaraderie added a nostalgic touch to the event. Special guest performances included Tom’s son, James, who joined his dad for heartfelt renditions of “Jealous Guy” and “Thunder Road.” His return to college made this a poignant send-off.

Celebrating with Friends and Family

 

The support from family and friends was overwhelming. It was wonderful to see familiar faces like Megan Sloan, Kate Cromien, and Chris Stevens amongst others. Even more special was seeing Paul’s old friends, who surprised him by attending the show and shared incredible stories of past performances, including one with Sinatra!

A Toast to the Night

 

Jason outdid himself by reintroducing Bell & Field-themed drinks, and adding the “Weddle Woo Woo” to the menu. It was a delightful touch that made the night even more memorable. Although Kevin, the owner of Crescent City Tap, couldn’t attend, his presence was felt through the meticulous care and preparation that went into the evening.

As we wrapped up with a powerful rendition of “Piano Man,” the audience and band became one, proving once again the unifying power of live music in Galva. We rarely do encores, but when Paul suggested rocking out to “American Girl,” we knew we had to give the crowd one last memory to cherish.

We’re already looking forward to our next gig at Edison’s Gastropub in Bettendorf next Saturday, and can’t wait for another chance to play with Paul. It was truly a night to remember!

Melodies and Memories: A Night at Joliet’s Moose Lodge

Our recent live acoustic duo performance at the Loyal Order of Moose in Joliet, IL was a night to remember. Despite the unexpected cancellation of the dinner event, the evening transformed into an intimate gathering filled with enthusiastic music lovers kicking back to enjoy live music and beer.

A Night of Classic Hits and New Discoveries

The evening started off with a lineup of beloved classics and some fresh additions to our repertoire. Each song, from Billy Joel’s “She’s Always a Woman” to Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” resonated with the audience, who responded with requests that kept the night lively and connected. Here are some highlights from our set:

  • “It’s Still Rock ‘n’ Roll to Me”

Personal Touches and Family Ties

One of the evening’s personal highlights was the presence of Greg’s dad, Steve, who was instrumental in ensuring everything ran smoothly. Steve, a steadfast supporter, contributed to the familial feel of the show, creating posters, assisting with setup and teardown, and announcing Bell & Field on stage.  “I always like seeing him,” Greg shared with a smile, “and I know when he’s back there sitting at the bar listening to the music that he’s our biggest fan there.”

Setting the Stage with Style

To enhance the ambiance, we set up a backdrop curtain, adding a touch of polish that complemented the venue’s vintage charm.

Even with a smaller audience, the energy was palpable, and the new setup allowed us to explore both familiar tunes and fresh tracks, like “Let Me Love You Tonight” by Pure Prairie League. This setting allowed us to practice and refine our performance, ensuring each song resonated better than before.

As the night wrapped up, we left with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that music had once again brought people together. The drive home, as always, was filled with stories and reflections—a cherished part of our journey as Bell & Field.

Harmony Under the Stars: Bell & Field at Market Alley Wines

On a blissfully comfortable August evening, Bell & Field brought their enchanting live acoustic duo performance to the outdoor setting of Market Alley Wines in Monmouth, IL. This venue, known for its inviting atmosphere and exquisite wine selection, became the perfect backdrop for an evening of music that was as warm as the summer breeze that swept through the gathering.

The Perfect Evening for Live Music

After enduring a long stretch of sweltering heat, the return to cooler temperatures was a welcome relief. As the sun cast its gentle glow over Monmouth’s Public Square, Bell & Field took to the outdoor stage, sharing the space with neighboring bar, Abner’s. The atmosphere was perfectly comfortable, with tables filled with eager music lovers ready to embrace the evening of perfect weather.

Interactive Crowd and New Tunes

The duo debuted several new songs, such as “It’s Still Rock ‘n’ Roll to Me” and “Let Me Love You Tonight” by Pure Prairie League, much to the delight of the crowd. An unexpected highlight was their rendition of the Bacharach/David classic “This Guy’s in Love With You,” a song that surprised and captivated the audience with its complex simplicity. There’s something truly special about bringing these unexpected gems to life.
