Stepping into the Treehouse Pub & Eatery on November 1 felt like entering a warm embrace. The cozy interior, adorned with rustic reclaimed wood, made for an inviting setting as Bell & Field took the stage for a memorable acoustic duo performance. Nestled in Bettendorf, this venue is known for its live music and vibrant community spirit, and our evening there was no exception.
The Venue: A Community Hub
Treehouse Pub & Eatery isn’t just a spot for great food and drinks; it’s a gathering place for locals to kick back, enjoy live music, and connect with friends. Their extensive menu boasts everything from gourmet burgers to artisan pizzas, not to mention a selection of craft beers that would satisfy any enthusiast. On this particular night, the Cuban Sandwich on Rustic Sourdough was my personal pre-show indulgence—a perfect warm-up for the performance ahead.
Highlights of the Night
Our set was a blend of old favorites and new tunes, each resonating with the audience in its own way. We debuted a few new songs:
- “Bittersweet” by Big Head Todd and the Monsters – A crowd favorite, even if it started a bit rough around the edges.
- “Jealous Again” – Our take on this Black Crowes classic had everyone tapping their feet.
- “Round Here” by Counting Crows – A challenging tune, but we were thrilled with our first performance of it.
- “What You Give” by Tesla – A surprise request that turned into a fun sing-along.
We also sprinkled in some of our originals, including my song “My Shadow,” which, though rehearsed only a few times, found its groove and might just become a regular in our setlist.
Moments of Connection
The night was full of interactions that made it truly special. I remember joking with Tom about our “two gears”—before and after the wine kicked in! Early in the evening, our music was tight and polished, creating a backdrop that allowed diners to chat and enjoy their meals. As the night went on and the energy ramped up, we leaned into the fun and shared that enthusiasm with the crowd. Tom’s parents were there, along with good friends Katherine and Marshall, making for a warm reunion.
Marshall even joined us on stage for a few jazz standards, mesmerizing everyone with his rich baritone voice. The crowd was also treated to a nostalgic moment when a shoutout for TV theme songs resulted in the “Taxi” theme—a fun surprise that brought smiles all around.
Closing the Night with a Bang
As the evening wound down, we played “Piano Man” earlier than usual, sparking a full-house sing-along. With the World Series game happening simultaneously, we ended on a high note with “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” another crowd-pleaser that got everyone singing. At the end of a great night, the Dodgers won the World Series just after we returned home—a win for Greg and his mom’s late husband, a lifelong Dodgers fan.
Thanks to Brian and his team at Treehouse Pub & Eatery for hosting such a fantastic night. We can’t wait to return and create more music-filled memories.
